Hello Friends!
Flytron has provided their new
SimpleOSD XL as a review product for FPV-Community!
At first I want to say thank you for your trust in our project
The review starts soon, but to bridge the time I´ve shot some nice pictures of this new OSD:
Flytron SimpleOSD XL Main Board
50A current sensor
SimpleOSD 10Hz GPS Module
After opening the package (insured shipping!) I removed the anti-ESD bag.
All PCB´s are very clean, I cannot find a dry soldered joint. Great quality overall!
Together with these 3 PCB´s I´ve received an USB Firmware Update Interface and a lot of male and female pins for connecting the boards.
The whole OSD looks very impressive and I´m looking forward to the first tests in one of my planes
By the way: At the monent we have a snow storm here and very cold temperatures
More soon!
Best regards
Heiko
I'm really looking forward to this review, as I've just ordered the XL with GPS and Current Sensor.
It seems really well designed and logical to put together.
Let's hope for better weather now..!
SimpleOSD XL-Edition review has arrived. More later!
i read this msg in the main web since 1 month at least,
will it be reviewed any day?
Hi spalnndsstest and welcome to FPV-Community!
Like you can see, we are still testing the new SimpleOSD XL!
But because of bad weather we can´t present any media
We hope to can do this soon! I think I´ll put the SimpleOSD in a brand new FPV platform (more about this soon!).
We have here a lot of projects to do for the FPV-Community

Stay tuned!
Best regards
Heiko
oh okey, thnks
Simple OSD XL got a configuration tool wich the one you can switch between 5 screen, but in the PCB i see no input for RC channel,
where should be connected the output of RC receiver to switch between screens ?
thnk you very much

I would like to try switching screens on my SOSD XL too, and from what I understand you are supposed to connect the rc receiver channel to the EXT port, taking care to connect ONLY the signal,S and the ground, -ve.
If using with rotary switch, screens 1,2,3,4,5 will work, if using with 3 position switch only screens 1,3,5 will work and if using 2 position switch only 1,5 will work. Can anyone confirm this?
EXT port oh yeap, i did not saw it,
but you can connect the 3 cables if you want, looks isolated the central pin,
It's exactly like masam54 wrote - use EXT port without middle (red/+) wire connected. It's not isolated, there is a power output from A/V battery. You can damage receiver or OSD, when you connect it with red wire plugged in... I think it's safe to remove this pin before soldering, you no need to bother about cable modification (but, as far as I know, Melih planed to use this EXT port also for other things than for RC screen switching. But nobody know if he ever find some time to make different firmware to use this port...).
One note for all XL users: ALWAYS disconnect firmware cable from OSD, when you don't urgently need it. Don't be lazy. When you are not flashing firmware, connect it after OSD has been powered up and disconnect it right after reconfiguration, before turing OSD off. If you don't, you will not damage OSD, but you'll get mad. Because OSD has almost no protection from unwanted bootloading, so just some intereference near the cable may damage stored firmware. So you have to upload it again and again, correct damaged calibration values etc...
One more note: if you don't want to calibrate sensors, use values 220 for Voltage and 512 for Current. On Flytron page is value 500 for current, this is not true (Melih should fix this).
Jameson i take a close look to the bard and it looks isolated
is 100% sure the middle pin got a Voltaje output ?

Center pin not isolated, this photo from top side, 5V power coming from bottom layer of PCB
I designed EXT pins for "EXTRAS" like screen switching. You can use this pins or just press the button for selection. EXT pins supporting + - S like standart servo output but regulator power not enough for supporting servos esc like BECs. This is why you must disconnect it when connect to the receiver.
I will use EXT port for Infrared dog fight at the future, this is why XL including a Infrared sensor

I'm waiting to the spring here for flying, then i will test tyhe dogfight system and release.
