Well I have been thinking about this one for a little while and have nearly all the parts together for a complete scratch build model of this plane. It may get some mods along the way to the engine nacelles and the cockpit area. So Generally I want it to look like the DH-88 but It may turn out a bit different to that anyway.

I was thinking that a wing span of around 2.2 to 2.4 meters would be a good size to be able to load her up equipment wise.

Construction would be a mix of foam , depron, aluminium and balsa. I think there may be a smaller version of the plane first just to check my construction techniques first. I will be a slow process and I'm not in too much of a rush to get going so I won't be stuffing up the build process and cutting corners.

Ideas are extreemly welcome for the build process and appreciate any ideas to help me on the way.

Great, That's exactly what I was thinking, Black Magic Smile

What's the AUFW for your plane? Nice build. Where did you get the plans from? I have plans from Gordon Plaxton which I am probably going to base my build from.

I was also thinking of running 2 cameras on board, One in the cockpit and one in the nose. The nose would be a fixed cam and the one in the cockpit would have pan/tilt.

How do you find the landings? Is it subject to tip stall?

Cheers

I found the drawings on the web. It was for a balsa build with around 3 meter spann.

I buillt it from foam covered with brown paper and white wood glue.

It has no twist buillt in to the wing but has very good flying caraterisatics. The wing profile is MH-32 which works fine.

Due to that it is a slope plane with no motors it have to be flown like that. With motors I think that it would be even more good flying. But no bad tendencies that I have seen.

Don“t know the AUW but it should be around 5-10 kg I think.

Hope that you get your build started and that we can see some pics soon.

Incredible job on the comet! Such a fantastic looking aircraft
AWSOME Slope soarer !! I cant wait to see an FPV version !!

kajakmannen What did you use for the wing spar ?
The main spar is made from a standing 4 mm plywood sheet and on top and bottom of that is carbon fibre robing laminated to create a I-beam.

The middel section of the wing is attached to the fuselage and the outer wing pannels have a paper tube with a aluminium tube inside to connect the outer panels with the middle wing section.
